How to Cut 8 Photos Cleanly with a Rotary Trimmer or Guillotine
- ✕Taking selfies with wide-angle lens distortion that exaggerates nose and forehead proportions.
- ✕Standing too close to the back wall, casting distinct dark shadows behind your head and shoulders.
- ✕Wearing white or pale pastel shirts that blend into the white background canvas.
- ✕Tilting the chin upward or downward, throwing off automated facial recognition distance vectors.
- ✕Allowing bangs or loose strands of hair to cover eyebrows, pupils, or facial borders.
Insider Photographer Pro Tips
- •Have a friend or family member take the photo from 5 feet away rather than taking a front-facing selfie.
- •Position yourself facing an open window during overcast daylight for diffused, shadow-free illumination.
- •When printing at CVS, Walgreens, or Walmart, order as a standard 4x6 print (costing around 35¢) rather than asking for the $17.99 passport photo service.
- •Keep extra physical prints in a clean envelope with your travel documents in case of consular requests.
